DECONSTRUCTING A SELF RECONSTRUCTING A SELF
Is it good fortune
To be a FoxyFox
Knowing little
Bits of lots and lots
But having not one
Big thing in which to range –
Not one BigThing to rearrange?
[With apologies to Isaiah Berlin]
In Hong Kong and Taipei I purchased illustrated Chinese texts, and when I asked friends “What is this about?” their answers were usually something like, “It’s about how to have good fortune.” Well, I thought, “I’ll use these texts to make my own books of fortune.” I made two accordion books with images and text; one is in the collection of Hong Kong artists Ma Kwai Shun and Liu Siu Jane and the second is in my possession.
